Shanghai woman forgives boyfriend for stabbing her dozens of times

A Shanghai woman forgave her boyfriend after a judge sentenced him to 3.5 years for stabbing her multiple times, saying she hoped they would “grow old together.”

The Putuo district court recently found the man surnamed Shen, in his 30s, guilty of intentional homicide for the brutal assault in November on his girlfriend surnamed Li.

She was found with around 60 wounds from stabs and blunt trauma on her face, head and body.

Li not only forgave Shen, but pleaded for a lenient sentence.

“I just don’t want to see him in prison for the rest of life. I am willing to stay together with him again when he is released,” Li told the court.

Shen met Li over WeChat. Soon after, Shen later left his ex-wife and child to move in with Li.

Shen and Li quarreled often, leading Li to leave him. Shen couldn’t accept the breakup, and tried to kill Li with a hammer and knife.

“I always fought with him. He was usually tolerant with me,” Li said.
