An 11-year-old schoolgirl who ran away from home with her parents’ smartphones later told police she did so to avoid doing an extracurricular math course.

Xiaoxiao, from Guangyuan, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, slipped out of the house at 4 am on Monday.

Before leaving, she pocketed her parents’ smartphones to access money through mobile payment on WeChat.

Xiaoxiao then contacted her mother on another phone, saying she would return if her mother sent a photo of her ID.

The mother called police and reported her missing.

Officers found Xiaoxiao that afternoon at a bus stop about 20 kilometers from her home.

Xiaoxiao told police that she left home because she didn’t want to take a Mathematical Olympiad course after school.
