Organ Donors Needed!

HK Magazine - - NEWS -

A poll of Hong Kong residents by youth group Junior Chamber International Victoria has found that despite more than 90 percent of 580 respondents saying that they would donate their organs after death, only a third were registered organ donors— and younger respondents were actually less likely to be registered. Respondents said they had not registered because they didn’t know how to do so, what organ donations involved, or were unsure if their families would approve. Some 200,000 donors are listed on the government’s register— just 2.7 percent of the population. Health chief Ko Wing-man attributed the low organ donation rate to traditional beliefs. Our take: We’re all for tradition… but some traditions have to end. Register to become an organ donor at www.codr.gov.hk
