Madama But­ter­fly

Gi­a­como Puc­cini’s time­less opera gets a pared­down stag­ing cour­tesy of Opera Hong Kong’s stun­ning en­sem­ble. In Puc­cini’s tragic tale, a Ja­panese woman, Cio-Cio-San, falls in love with the Amer­i­can Lieu­tenant Pinker­ton, gets preg­nant, and is aban­doned un­til he comes back to take her child away. This semi-staged pro­duc­tion stars so­pra­nos Nancy Yuen and Louise Kwong tak­ing turns as Cio-Cio-San and Adam Diegel as Pinker­ton. Aug 16-17, 8pm. Born Lau Vi­ola Recital

Hong Kong vi­o­list Born Lau has played around the world, from Canada to Korea, play­ing with the Tokyo String Quar­tet and the San Diego Sym­phony, among oth­ers.
