So Long, HK!

HK Magazine published its last issue on Friday, October 7. A spokesperson for South China Morning Post Publishers Ltd., which owns HK Magazine, cited a “volatile advertising landscape” and “diminishing profitability” as reasons for the closure of the 25-year-old lifestyle publication. In 2013, HK Magazine’s publisher Asia City Media Group sold the publication to the SCMP. Late last year, SCMP was in turn acquired by the Alibaba Group. At the time of its closure, HK Magazine, which was available for free in bars, restaurants and cafes, had a circulation of between 30,000-50,000 copies a week. The company has said that HK Magazine’s social media platforms and website will be closed, with online content migrating to SCMP.com.
