Style Standards

- Emily lEung, EdiTor

The design industry, like all others, is going through some challenging times. Clients have grown cautious, budgets have been cut, and many successful brands are struggling to maintain their staff and stores. Simultaneously however, the field is growing in leaps and bounds – a heartening demonstration of the importance of design. There’s no better showcase of that than the annual Salone del Mobile in Milan, featuring the most innovative furniture, accessories and design installations. Read our Report (Page 85) on the influx of ingenuity and creative vision presented during its 56th edition.

At Home Journal, we don’t have any trouble finding exciting new industry talents, from fabric designers to decorators. In Insight (Page 75), we uncover three design studios on the rise, all of which have found their niche, not to mention possess fabulous style. Look no further if you are searching for fresh inspiration to renovate your space.

As we all know, getting a home to look and feel as exquisite as we want it to is no easy task, so it’s a godsend to encounter a designer who understands your desired aesthetic and offers their professional expertise to enhance your vision. But at the end of the day, the result of a project is dependent on the style mandate of the homeowner, which all the homes we feature this month are testament to. From Hong Kong to London, Manila, Milan and Vienna, all of these homes shine because the homeowners have departed from a set style or trend. They have made their spaces entirely their own by weaving in assembled objects and appointments they’ve collected to tell their individual story. From the evocative fabrics of De Gournay in Rachel and Hannah Gurney’s Chelsea home (Page 162) to the bright and beautiful international art collected by Tarlan Amigh for her family abode (Page 124), our pages are bursting with inspiration and prized possessions for you to discover.
