FOOD FOR THOUGHT
As the sun set behind the South China Sea, a wave of movers and shakers from the food and beverage sectors of Hong Kong and Macau flooded The Ocean in Repulse Bay for a glittering cocktail party to launch the 2016 edition of Hong Kong Tatler Best Restaurants.
Sponsored by Perrier-Jouët, San Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, and Li TV, the event held in the newly-opened Le Comptoir restaurant saw over 260 attendees, including Hong Kong and Macau's best chefs, restaurateurs, industry professionals and food personalities—among them the legendary Pierre Gagnaire himself, who accepted the Top 20 Award for his eponymous restaurant alongside executive chef Jean-Denis Le Bras.
Before the ceremony, guests were treated to a diverse range of top-notch canapés and sushi featuring sustainable seafood, and free-flowing Champagne from Perrier-Jouët.
New recipients of the prestigious Top 20 Awards for 2016 included Ta Vie, Arcane, Tri, Yan Toh Heen, The Ocean, Duddell's, Epure, Carbone, The Continental, and Otto e Mezzo Macau while Yenn Wong accepted our inaugural Restaurateur of the Year award.
The awards presentation ended on a humorous note as we unveiled our third annual film presentation, Life of a Critic. Starring Oscar and Keanu, two five-year-old budding gourmands, the five-minute short was a tongue-in-cheek look at how we might be training the next generation of restaurant reviewers for the Best Restaurants Guide of the future.
