Dancing Up A Storm
WHAT Hong Kong Ballet Ball WHEN February 17, 2017 WHERE Grand Hyatt
Happy chatter filled the foyer of the Grand Hyatt as the crowd sipped on champagne in anticipation of the entertainment awaiting beyond the ballroom doors at the annual Hong Kong Ballet Ball. Once the gathering moved into the ballroom proper, Hong Kong Ballet chairwoman Daisy Ho, flanked by co-chairs Mira Yeh and Janice Chan- Choy, mounted the stage to give a welcoming address. The evening’s programme of entertainment included performances by the ballet company’s dancers. The first was Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker. Then came White vs Black, a piece choreographed by Yuh Egami. However, the final performance, Still Lives, stole the show. Ricky Hu’s choreography mixed traditional ballet with pole dancing. A live auction also took place with Ian McGinlay of Sotheby’s presiding. The night kicked into full gear with the arrival of DJ Will Power, who kept the dancefloor swishing into the small hours.
