HORSE OWNERS, JOCKEYS AND FANS OF RACING WERE OUT IN FORCE FOR THE JOCKEY CLUB’S ANNUAL CHAMPION AWARDS
Aglittering ceremony at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong drew the biggest names in the city’s horse racing scene for the annual Champion Awards. The presentation ceremony took place over an eightcourse Chinese banquet with free-flowing champagne and wine. The winners were decided by a panel of six judges—winfried EngelbrechtBresges, William Nader and Nigel Gray from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and Carlos Wu, Timothy Wong and Wong Tangping from the Association of Hong Kong Racing Journalists. Designs on Rome was named Horse of the Year; Most Popular Jockey went to Brazilian rider João Moreira; and Most Admired Overseas Horse went to Lord Kanaloa. The evening was a great success and guests partied into the wee hours. A few of those spotted at the gathering were Charles and Heidy Chan and Philip Chen.
