HORSE OWN­ERS, JOCK­EYS AND FANS OF RAC­ING WERE OUT IN FORCE FOR THE JOCKEY CLUB’S AN­NUAL CHAM­PION AWARDS

Aglit­ter­ing cer­e­mony at the Grand Hy­att Hong Kong drew the big­gest names in the city’s horse rac­ing scene for the an­nual Cham­pion Awards. The pre­sen­ta­tion cer­e­mony took place over an eight­course Chi­nese ban­quet with free-flow­ing cham­pagne and wine. The win­ners were de­cided by a panel of six judges—win­fried En­gel­brechtBres­ges, Wil­liam Nader and Nigel Gray from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and Car­los Wu, Ti­mothy Wong and Wong Tang­ping from the As­so­ci­a­tion of Hong Kong Rac­ing Jour­nal­ists. De­signs on Rome was named Horse of the Year; Most Popular Jockey went to Brazil­ian rider João Mor­eira; and Most Ad­mired Over­seas Horse went to Lord Kanaloa. The evening was a great suc­cess and guests par­tied into the wee hours. A few of those spot­ted at the gath­er­ing were Charles and Heidy Chan and Philip Chen.
