WASTE, ESSEX

The English county of Essex has just built an anaerobic digestion plant, in which the fermentation of food waste produces methane that is used to generate electricity. In processing 45,000 tonnes of food waste per year, the plant will create enough electricity to power more than 4,000 homes.
