The new nudes
If eyes took centre stage, the rest of the beauty look was duly pared back. But rather than being altogether muted, the neutrality of brows, lips and nails was magnified, enhanced and amplified for a new-season approach to nude. Aside from a smattering of classic pillarbox reds, mouths were almost exclusively a your-lips-but-better version of au naturel. They were plumped up in silken tone-on-tone shades at Dolce & Gabbana, daubed and blotted to create flushed, rosebud pouts at Burberry, or slicked with barely-there balms to add moisture and fullness at Diane Von Furstenberg. Face-framing came by way of the softly sculpted cheeks seen at Carolina Herrera, Givenchy and Mary Katrantzou, where buttery shades of soft rose, apricot and nude were worked into skin to enhance cheekbones. Additional sculpting occurred via the continued trend for Cara Delevingne-esque eyebrows. They were universally filled-out and fattened with tonal pencils and fibrous brow gels. Finally, for the new season, nails whispered in hyper-natural shades of putty, greige and milky white. Taupe tones dominated at Michael Kors and dense fawn at Carolina Herrera. Meanwhile, nails were lacquered at Cavalli and Tom Ford, where the women were “groomed, expensive and understated,” says manicurist Liza Smith.
