Maria Elena Aprea
jeweller BACKGROUND Maria Elena Aprea comes from the isle of Capri, where the rich and famous have holidayed since Roman times. With her siblings Gabriele and Costanza, she helms Chantecler, an Italian jewellery brand founded by their father, Salvatore. While she is also involved in the company’s strategic development, Maria has always been more inclined towards the creative side of things. She personally attends to bespoke clients and has led Chantecler’s creative department since 2002.
DESIGN SIGNATURE Embracing tradition in workmanship while having a lighthearted attitude towards life, or what the French call joie de vivre, is Chantecler’s approach to design. The company’s jewellery epitomises the natural beauty of Capri, incorporating vividly coloured gemstones and intricately crafted detail.
CREATIVE PHILOSOPHY For Aprea, inspiration comes from everywhere, including people passing through the streets of Capri. Her latest collection, Paillettes, mimics the movement of sequin dresses worn by women who saunter along Via Camerelle, Capri’s designer street.
