Building Artistic Capital
THE WHO’S WHO OF HONG KONG’S DESIGN WORLD WILL THROW ON THEIR EDGIEST GLAD RAGS FOR THE SIXTH EDITION OF THE AMBASSADOR’S BALL ON NOVEMBER 8
The thriving new design hub PMQ this month hosts the annual fundraising gala of the Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design. The organisation, chaired by Alan Lo, supports creative ventures in the city and across the Pearl River Delta. This year’s ball marks the launch of the Design Trust, a grant-making platform that aims to provide flexible funding for creative projects and promising talent in the region. The trust will provide fellowships with local and overseas institutions for designers to expand their portfolios in the fields of research, skillsbuilding and hands-on practice. Grants for creative projects in graphics, media, fashion and the built environment will also be available. Proceeds from the gala will add to the seed capital for the grants. “2014 is a very special year for our organisation,” says Lo. “Our city’s creative industry has come a long way and we are so thrilled to be introducing the Design Trust, which is equipped to support Hong Kong’s push to further develop the creative scene.” Designer Joyce Wang will oversee the design and decor of the ball.
