Art of the Sale Asia Art Ar­chive Auc­tion and Din­ner

More than HK$11 mil­lion was raised for the Asia Art Ar­chive at its an­nual fundrais­ing auc­tion. Among the guests gath­ered at the China Club li­brary for the event, hosted by the ar­chive’s founder, Claire Hsu-vu­chot, were col­lec­tors and VIPS from the art world, who bid gen­er­ously. Christie’s, which spon­sored the event along with Van Cleef & Ar­pels, staged a three-day pre­view of the art­works. Artists whose work fea­tured in the auc­tion, which took place dur­ing a lav­ish din­ner, in­cluded Arnold Chang, Fung Ming Chip, Zhang Xiao­gang and Cao Fei. The slate also in­cluded works by artists from Cam­bo­dia, Ja­pan and In­dia. The money raised will go to­wards the ar­chive’s mission of doc­u­ment­ing the his­tory of con­tem­po­rary art in Asia within an in­ter­na­tional con­text. Among the guests were Wil­liam Zhao, Kevin Chau, Elaine Mar­den and Yana Peel.
