NIGHT ON THE TOWN

sophisticated and charismatic, with a unique depth of character. Natural Colour is portrayed by a woman who is beautiful, lively and energetic. There’s a touch of whimsical humour in the choice for Curiously Small Stills—a classically alluring woman conveys a sense of timeless elegance while cradling a small Chinese crested dog.

The artist’s approach of adding layer upon layer to create a stunning overall effect is not dissimilar to the method adopted by the master whisky-maker at The Macallan, who selected six unique casks from more than 200,000 maturing at the distillery. The ultimate result, showcasing the skills of both photographer and distiller, is The Masters of Photography: Mario Testino Edition, each featuring one of the iconic, colour-themed shoots in Beijing presented in a high-gloss, black-lacquered and Asian-themed box. Every box is individually numbered and comes with a photo-archival booklet with 20 images, a bottle of single malt and six miniatures from the various casks. There is one final touch: a secret compartment in the box.

When a project is finished, Testino has been known to have a moment of reflection with a wee dram—or to raise a glass to mark the start of a party night. He says: “It has to be The Macallan, of course. I only drink when the work is over, though. It’s too much stress otherwise. My perfect Macallan moment would have to be moments we captured in the pictures: drinking with my best friends, in the company of a fabulous mix of people.”
