Art Basel in Hong Kong’s Director Asia, Adeline Ooi, discusses the opportunities and challenges her new role offers to drive the region’s art forward
alaysian-born Adeline Ooi replaced Magnus Renfrew as Director Asia for Art Basel in Hong Kong in January. A finearts graduate from Central Saint Martins in London, Ooi is tasked with leading the development of the Art Basel in Hong Kong show and ensuring a strong Asian presence through Art Basel’s international activities. She’s no stranger to the Art Basel scene, though, having previously served as its VIP relations manager for Southeast Asia, overseeing Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Concurrently, she co-founded Rogueart, a Malaysia-based cultural agency where her clients included artists, galleries, institutions, and corporate and private collections. Ooi also previously worked as the curator and programme director of the Valentine Willie Fine Art gallery in Kuala Lumpur.
