Is Southeast Asia the global art market’s next sweet spot?

I think with Southeast Asia, in comparison to countries like China, Korea and Japan, it’s difficult to generalise. But, for example, places like Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore are quickly catching up. A lot of that has to do with history. We’re very young countries in comparison—singapore’s only just celebrating its 50th anniversary [of independence] this year. I think Southeast Asian artists definitely have interesting things to say and, in Asia generally, I think there is a lot of interest in their work. In recent years there has been a strong focus on Indonesia, for example.
