The house of Sandeman is releasing a rare woodaged port, Cask 33. It’s a fortified wine aged more than 50 years in wooden casks, with most of the port coming from the renowned 1963 vintage. “This is the 225th anniversary of Sandeman and we thought that we should offer something special to celebrate,” says George Sandeman, the head of the winery. Sandeman Cask 33 offers an amazing richness of fruit and complexity of citrus, cream, flan, butterscotch and cherry character. It remains clean and bright for a fortified wine left so long in the barrel. Only about 400 bottles were produced; each is individually numbered and comes in a special case.
