t’s late morning and we’re standing on what must surely be the world’s most beautiful beach. The helicopters that buzzed us across the Coral Sea, flirting like amorous dragonflies over the famous Heart Reef—the backdrop for countless airborne proposals of marriage—crouch quietly on the sevenkilometre strip of silver silica, with sand so fine it will polish a wedding ring wrapped in my palms. Champagne splashes in glasses, white bubbles spiral in the sparkling seawater lapping the golden shoreline and gourmet treats await in chic picnic hampers provided by our pilots, who rest unseen in hammocks shaded under nearby trees. Paradise found.

Australia’s most photographed beach, Whitehaven, is a short hop from One & Only Hayman Island, our exclusive tropical-island getaway nestled at the northernmost tip of the Whitsunday archipelago in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.
