Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos has transformed the MGM Macau with an exhibition of vibrant and monumental sculptures, created exclusively for the resort. Vasconcelos, who has exhibited at numerous editions of the Venice Biennale, was inspired by Macau’s heritage as a hub for maritime trade. Central to the exhibtion is Valkyrie Octopus— a strange organic form which hangs from the skylight dome of the MGM Macau’s central atrium. The form presides over the space like a guardian, with its auspicious eight tentacles reaching across to other works and embracing the aquarium at the centre of the hotel’s Grand Praça.
