FRUITS of LABOUR
christian dior “I was intrigued by the idea of the forbidden fruit and what that means now,” revealed Raf Simons. The juxtaposition of purity with luxury and excess came through in Simons’ futurist approach to fashion; the result was a collection (and a space) that seemed pure fairy tale. Soft and delicate natural chiffon and taffeta dresses were accented by jewelled cannage vests, while frocks inspired by Dior’s famous 1950s New Look shape were made of multi-hued feathers and styled with knitted fur gilets. The venue—a hand-painted psychedelic green house—featured a violet carpet adorned with berrylike sculptures.
