For want of a better world
Noted philanthropist Lui Che-woo launches a rich annual prize to promote human advancement and social harmony
The need for altruism is greater than ever, said Lui Che-woo, chairman of the K Wah Group, in announcing a HK$60 million annual prize to mark the group’s 60th anniversary. By attracting the world’s brightest minds to solve some of its most fundamental problems, he hopes the Lui Chewoo Prize for World Civilization will “deliver well-being to people and create the conditions where good and harmony thrive.” More than 1,000 institutions have been invited to submit nominations in three areas: sustainable development, welfare of mankind, and the promotion of positive life attitude. The first three winners will be named late next year and will receive HK$20 million each.
