Chao 2 by Chaophraya

Growing up in Kowloon Tong, Rina Hiranand has seen Kowloon City develop almost beyond recognition, with some of Hong Kong’s oldest Chiu Chow restaurants now sitting alongside hip new eateries. “I love eating in Kowloon City because it has some of the best food in Hong Kong but, unlike other areas, it still retains a neighbourhood vibe,” says Rina, who still lives in the area. Chao 2 by Chaophraya, a modern Thai restaurant, is one of her favourites. “The restaurant is on the site of the family’s old Thai supermarket on Nam Kok Road. Chao 2 pays homage to the past while creating a fantastic new experience. The restaurant is both modern but very local, and has a unique sense of place.” Rina’s usual order consists of soft-shell crab and pumpkin curry, barbecued chicken with sticky rice, and mushroom laab.
