The Trans-pa­cific Part­ner­ship (TPP) trade agree­ment, con­di­tion­ally agreed upon by 12 coun­tries across the Pa­cific Rim af­ter five years of ne­go­ti­a­tions, is ex­pected to give a boost to US wine ex­ports as it will re­move 18,000 tar­iffs cur­rently placed on the coun­try’s goods (in­clud­ing those by its third-largest ex­port mar­ket, Ja­pan), re­ports Wine-searcher. The agree­ment, how­ever, has yet to be rat­i­fied by the coun­tries and de­tails re­gard­ing for­eign in­vest­ment rules re­main murky. Those in­volved are Aus­tralia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Ja­pan, Malaysia, Mex­ico, New Zealand, Peru, Sin­ga­pore, the US and Viet­nam.
