Kathy and Ge­orge Tong Many wine col­lec­tors brought bot­tles from their own cel­lars to share, in­clud­ing such rar­i­ties as a 1970 Pio Ce­sare Barolo, a 1964 Bor­gogno Barolo Ris­erva, a 1979 Do­maine de la Ro­manée-conti Richebourg and a 1990 Do­maine Du­jac Clos de la Roche. Many of the vint­ners com­mented on the keen en­thu­si­asm shown by Hongkongers for Ital­ian wines and food at the Great Wines of Italy events. “Th­ese events are more than just about wine and food,” James Suck­ling said. “They are about the great­ness of Italy as a coun­try—from history, art, land­scape, food, wine and ev­ery­thing else. Th­ese wines are evoca­tive and take you to where they are made with ev­ery sip.”
