THE FAYRE OF ST JOHN’S

’Tis the Season...

Hong Kong Tatler - - Faces -

Sipping mulled wine in 20-degree weather doesn’t conjure the traditional idea of a snowclad holiday season, nor does donning short sleeves to go Christmas carolling. But that was the case at the annual Fayre of St John’s, a festive concert held at the cathedral to benefit Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre. Aside from the carol-singing, other highlights from the evening included impassioned readings by Lisa Selesner and Michele Reis, plus a magical ballet performance of The Nutcracker by Wu Fei-fei, principal dancer of the Hong Kong Ballet. James Louey was just one of many to serenade the audience before Maggie’s Choir closed the evening with a touching rendition of The Moon Represents My Heart. Guests were then ushered across Central to Kee Club, where a lively after-party ensued with a feast of classic Christmas nibbles—eggnog, mince pies and gingerbread men—along with a naughty photo booth containing a scantily dressed Mr and Mrs Claus.
