de­signer BACK­GROUND French fash­ion de­signer Alexan­dre Vau­thier is a graduate of the renowned pri­vate French fash­ion school esmod. He trained un­der Thierry Mu­gler and be­came the head de­signer at Jean Paul gaultier for eight years be­fore cre­at­ing his own haute cou­ture brand in 2009. With stream­lined sil­hou­ettes, big shoul­ders and rad­i­cal lay­ers, Vau­thier’s col­lec­tions are fu­tur­is­tic and full of geo­met­ric shapes. His ap­proach to style is con­fi­dent and bold, at­tract­ing singer ri­hanna, who he dressed for over a year and for whom he de­signed many cos­tumes.

Unique COL­LAB­O­RA­TION Vau­thier was in­vited by Parisian high jew­eller Mel­le­rio to de­sign a col­lec­tion for the 400-year-old brand. Founded in 1613, Mel­le­rio was a favourite of euro­pean aris­to­crats in the 18th and 19th cen­turies, in­clud­ing Marie de Medici, who be­came queen of France, em­press eugénie of France, and Queen Le­tizia of spain.

new COL­LEC­TION Ac­cord­ing to Vau­thier, he was so in­spired by Mel­le­rio’s archive of de­signs that he was able to fin­ish sketch­ing a new col­lec­tion in two days. The key el­e­ments are a com­bi­na­ton of Vau­thier and Mel­le­rio’s dna: a mod­ern, geo­met­ric struc­ture forming Vs and Ms cre­ated with tra­di­tional jew­ellery-making tech­niques. set with di­a­monds and emer­alds, some pieces can be worn in dif­fer­ent ways, like a pen­dant that can be trans­formed into an ear­ring.
