AMBASSADORS OF DESIGN BA LL
In Design We Trust
It’s certainly not unusual for roast suckling pig to be on the menu at Maxim’s Palace, but you wouldn’t expect to see a piglet with red flashing lights in place of its eyes. However, that’s the sight that greeted guests taking their seats at the seventh annual Ambassadors of Design (AOD) Ball. The City Hall restaurant, renowned for some of the finest Cantonese food in Hong Kong, follows the traditional style of serving dim sum from a cart, so the venue was an apt fit with the theme of this year’s ball, Tales from the Fragrant Harbour.
The gathering brought out the city’s creative connoisseurs and captains of industry, who received a warm welcome from Alan Lo, chairman of the Design Trust, the grantfunding platform launched by the AOD in 2014. A silent auction took place as the guests enjoyed a sumptuous dinner, during which they were treated to contemporary film and dance performances. Many of the auction lots sold above their estimates. Alan showed his gratitude for the guests’ support by steering a cart loaded with egg custard buns around the hall and personally serving dessert. All proceeds from the night went to the Design Trust.
