ROOM TO READ’S GALA DINNER

With more than US$3.25 million raised, this year’s Room to Read gala dinner proved to be a night to remember. Held in the Grand Ballroom at the Four Seasons, the event celebrated Room to Read’s 11th such dinner in the city; the literacy charity’s founder, John Wood, expressed his gratitude to supporters in his welcome speech. A highlight of the evening was the live auction in which Swire Hotels’ “Shanghai Surprise,” a two-night takeover of its new property in Shanghai, went under the hammer for US$120,000.
