A Token of Elegance: Cigarette Holders in Vogue is an intimate look at Carolyn Hsu-balcer’s collection of more than 400 pieces. Written by Martin Barnes Lorber and Rebecca Mcnamara, with a foreword by Carolyn, and photography by John Bigelow Taylor and Dianne Dubler, the book takes the reader on a journey through the history of tobacco consumption, from its beginnings in the rituals of pre-colombian cultures, via popularity in royal circles and the glamour days of Hollywood, to the current e-cigarette craze. Carolyn’s collection covers the gamut of holders, including the first one made by Fabergé and disposable promotional versions given out during the Roaring Twenties.
