Sapphire crystal is one of the toughest materials to work with. Hublot and Bell & Ross, however, rose to the challenge and revealed timepieces with cases made almost entirely of the material. Bell & Ross presented the BR-X1 Tourbillon Sapphire, which houses its skeletonised dial and flying tourbillon within an all-sapphire case. On the heels of its ambitious MP05 Laferrari Sapphire project, Hublot set off to create the Big Bang Unico Sapphire, with the middle and back of its case as well as the bezel cut from blocks of sapphire, with only the screws, crowns and buckle executed in titanium.
