Christie’s spared no expense in celebrating the 30th anniversary of its presence in Asia with an exclusive dinner at the Grand Hyatt. The ballroom was decorated with a pan-asian theme, bright red lanterns adorned the walls—and there was not one, but four lion dances. Christie’s CEO Patricia Barbizet and Asia-pacific chairman François Curiel opened proceedings with brief speeches, thanking everyone present for their support over the years. VIP clients of the auction house made up the guest list, with many flying in for the occasion. They enjoyed a sumptuous meal that included lobster bisque, prime sirloin steak and soft chocolate tart. However, the highlight of the anniversary celebrations took place earlier in the day, when 100 per cent of the lots presented at “30 Years: The Sale” sold, netting HK$2.8 billion.
