Off-the-shoulder jackets, extra-long trousers and slouchy, shin-skimming jumpers. Ill-fit is the new fit
I get it. You’ve spent the past few years dutifully searching for that dream pair of skinny jeans and the perfectly tailored suit. It’s scary to say goodbye. But say goodbye you must, for the new silhouette is oversized to the point of outrageous, verging on silly in its voluminousness and, frankly, quite brilliant. From the cocoon-like coats and slouching oversized macs that dripped off models at Damir Doma to the baggy pants at Marni, autumn’s menswear offers a kooky meditation on proportions. These are clothes with a little—or a lot—more give and flow, clothes that say, “Hey, there’s room for two in here. Hop in!” And with menswear maestro Raf Simons having taken the helm at Calvin Klein, there’s bound to be further shake-ups to the silhouette in 2017. The question is, will he put baggy back on the agenda?
