De­part­ing the sauna well rested, take a stroll along the wa­ter­front through Heliga Bir­git­tas Park into Eira, a pres­ti­gious 19-hectare neigh­bour­hood of art nou­veau houses from the early 1900s. It’s home to for­eign em­bassies and some of the most ex­pen­sive res­i­dences in the city. That 103-me­tre tower and spire punc­tur­ing the sky be­longs to the Mikael Agrikola Church, a min­i­mal­ist red-brick Lutheran house of wor­ship built in the 1930s and named af­ter the 16th­cen­tury cler­gy­man who de­vel­oped the first writ­ing sys­tem for Finnish.
