Book far in advance for this super cool San Fran favourite perched on the waterfront next to the farmers market. Chef Charles Phan’s Vietnamese menu is a contemporary take on Asian classics made with fresh ingredients from the market right outside. Must-order dishes include the organic chicken claypot with Thai chilli and fresh ginger, cellophane noodles with Dungeness crab, and barbecued Willis Ranch pork spare ribs. If the weather’s fine, bag a table on the seafront terrace, sip on a killer Bloody Mary and watch the world go by. California’s finest wines and produce are showcased to perfection at this Michelinstarred restaurant housed in a restored Victorian house with stained-glass windows and antique lamps atop tables sheathed in crisp white linen. Chef Jarad Gallagher offers two tasting menus—one sourced entirely within the state, which includes dishes such as Sonoma foie gras, Liberty Farm duck, and cheesecake made with local kumquats, and the other sourced from around the globe. Booking is essential.
