While China and India have long ranked among the top offenders for air pollution, the latest statistics from the World Health Organisation put countries in the Middle East ahead of those two nations in terms of annual concentration of harmful PM2.5 particles. At the top of the table are Pakistan (115.7), Qatar (92.4) and Afghanistan (86) thanks to their heavy industry and uncontrolled emissions, while strict regulations and low industry in Australia (5.7), Brunei (6.6) and New Zealand (6.8) put them at the bottom of the list.
