Li Li, a professor of traditional Chinese studies in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, has gained fame online for turning his backyard into a zoo where he keeps nearly 200 species of animals, some of which are rare or endangered, including porcupines, ostriches and civets.

Most were rescued from restaurants and underground markets. Li told media that he has studied hard to learn about various animals’ habits and he also received much guidance from the local forestry department. Netizens spoke highly of Li’s benevolence and said that they admired his life.
