CHOPARD L.U.C XP URUSHI – YEAR OF THE ROOSTER
For a number of years, Chopard has chosen the Japanese art of Urushi to depict the Chinese zodiac, and it continues that tradition for the rooster. What may originally look like a delicate painting is in fact made with the sap of the Japanese varnish tree that is aged and treated to become a very durable lacquer. This is then applied in very thin layers, trapping some very small mother-of-pearl fragments to give the painting an inherent iridescence. The name of the master artist, Kichiro Masumura, and the company he’s attached to, the Yamada Heiando firm, are proudly engraved on the case back.
