Three dead in Pudong knife at­tack

THREE peo­ple died and six oth­ers were in­jured in an in­ci­dent which took place in Pudong on Wed­nes­day even­ing, po­lice said yes­ter­day.

One of those dead was the al­leged at­tacker, a 44-year-old man suran­med Huang.

Pudong po­lice re­ceived a re­port at about 8:10pm on Wed­nes­day that a man was at­tack­ing peo­ple with a knife in a res­i­den­tial com­plex on Gonghua Road, Caolu Town.

A 60-year-old woman was con­firmed dead and six in­jured were rushed to hospi­tal when po­lice ar­rived on the scene, po­lice said.

One of the in­jured, a 64-yearold man, later died in hospi­tal.

As po­lice searched for Huang, he ap­peared from a res­i­den­tial build­ing and started wielding a knife at po­lice and res­i­dents.

Huang was sub­dued by po­lice and res­i­dents, with one of­fi­cer in­jured in the process.

Huang was also in­jured, but po­lice would not com­ment when asked how.

Huang was taken to hospi­tal and later died of his in­juries.

None of the sur­vivors were crit­i­cally in­jured, po­lice said. Their in­ves­ti­ga­tion is still un­der­way. Huang, un­em­ployed, was said to be a loner with a bad tem­per who of­ten quar­relled with neigh­bors, ac­cord­ing to the po­lice.
