What better way to enjoy an urban respite in Hong Kong than indulging in a stay at the 852's best unique abodes? There's never a dull moment in Hong Kong, and the crop of unique hotels reflect this characteristic. Whether you're a traveller stopping for a short time or a seasoned Hongkonger just looking for a weekend away, you're bound to fall in love with the exceptional boutique hotels that the city has to offer. Here are a selection of our favourites.

The Pottinger Hong Kong

Hong Kong may be synonymous with skyscrapers and a concrete jungle, but The Pottinger brings guests back to the 1950s era. The 68-room hotel is situated on the city's first cobbled street and has century-old tenement buildings as neighbours. As a homage to Hong Kong's ‘east-meets-west' history, the building boasts Art Deco furnishings as well as chinoiserie details. Their artwork is by photographer Fan Ho, who captured the city's contrasting grittiness and beauty in the 50s and 60s. Despite the focus on the past, The Pottinger also provides the best of technology, including complimentary smartphones with free IDD calls and Acca Kappa bathroom amenities. This is the epitome of old world meets contemporary luxury.

Hotel Stage登臺

One for the art lovers. The 97-room Hotel Stage pays homage to the city's artisans through an impressive display of local artwork in their Art Rooms. Club and Suite guests have 24-hour exclusive access to the Library Lounge, an extensive library of collectible books housed in a relaxing room. Hotel Stage is also home to the Muse, Yau Ma Tei's creative hideout which includes a retail showcase of art and design publications and artisan products, a wine bar offering more than 100 handpicked wines, cheeseboards and charcuterie platters, and a platform for artistic and cultural initiatives within the community. The hotel hopes to connect overseas guests with the local community through a rotating programme of visual arts and music performances, and we, for one, are all for this concept.

Madera Hollywood

Chances are if you've strolled down Hollywood Road, you will have seen the giant pop-art mural of Marilyn Monroe. This funky façade houses the aptly-named Madera Hollywood, and blends in perfectly with the creative street art vibe in the area. The interior of this 38-room hotel is dedicated to the silver screen and its biggest stars such as Audrey Hepburn and Charlie Chaplin. Decked out in a maximalist style with vintage pieces and retro furniture in brightly-coloured rooms, this is truly the embodiment of quirky.

A fan of the unexpected? The Luxe Manor is a stylish surrealisminspired hotel for a little touch of escapism from reality. Nestled amidst the bustling streets of Tsim Sha Tsui, the hotel boasts 153 guest rooms, but their crown jewels are the six themed suites on offer, each with a vastly different vibe designed by David Buffery and Aedad Interiors. The Nordic suite resembles an ice cave; Liaison is for the romantics, with its Venetian mirrors and bespoke circular bed; and Mirage taps further into the decadence of surrealism where nothing is as it seems. Even their lobby is unique; guests enter through a waterfall to be greeted by metal-toned décor, a mosaic floor, and the ‘Old Master Q Chair' centrepiece—all inspired by master architect and surrealist icon Antonio Gaudi.
