THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE MOVING ONTO LAMMA ISLAND
The majority of residential properties on outlying islands are village houses. Due to the lack of sales data, banks tend to underestimate island homes.
Poor Wifi Connection
Lamma has yet to receive submarine communications cable connection. As a result, its Wifi speed is significantly slower compared to urban areas.
Ferry services may cease during typhoons or rainstorms as ferries may not be able to dock. In addition, strong winds caused by typhoons often sweep large amounts of marine waste onto the beaches, roads and even residential buildings on Lamma Island.
Village Representative Elections
Each village can elect two representatives: one Indigenous Inhabitant Representative and a Resident Representative. Anyone who has moved onto the island and lived there for over three years can register to vote, or become eligible to run for the latter post if they have resided there for over six years. Representatives will become part of the Rural Committee, and be tasked with discussing island issues with the government.
Lamma Island's primary school net is No. 96, which has only one school: Northern Lamma School. Its secondary school net belongs to the Islands District, which includes Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College, Tung Chung Catholic School, and HKFEW Wong Cho Bau Secondary School.
