Here it is, the sound­track to every BBQ, beach day and road trip of the sum­mer! Kalei­do­scopic elec­tro-funk, gloopy neo soul and alt hip hop rub up against each other with the warm buzz of a well-loved C90 mix­tape. Even a guest vo­cal ap­pear­ance from Craig David (ikr?) can’t up­set the al­bum’s flow. The in­stru­men­tal cuts re­ally stand out how­ever, with “Bus Ride”’s jazzy ori­en­tal­ism and the cos­mic groove of “Break­dance Les­son No. 1.” “Drive Me Crazy” (fea­tur­ing Vic Mensa) is a mo­men­tary mis­step into generic r’n’b ter­ri­tory, yet putting that aside, it’s a near flaw­less col­lec­tion of genre bust­ing, mind ex­pand­ing jams. Fans of An­dree 3000’s The Love Be­low, D’An­gelo and Dam Funk, or those yearn­ing for the hal­cyon days of Chill­wave will find a lot to love here.
