Here it is, the soundtrack to every BBQ, beach day and road trip of the summer! Kaleidoscopic electro-funk, gloopy neo soul and alt hip hop rub up against each other with the warm buzz of a well-loved C90 mixtape. Even a guest vocal appearance from Craig David (ikr?) can’t upset the album’s flow. The instrumental cuts really stand out however, with “Bus Ride”’s jazzy orientalism and the cosmic groove of “Breakdance Lesson No. 1.” “Drive Me Crazy” (featuring Vic Mensa) is a momentary misstep into generic r’n’b territory, yet putting that aside, it’s a near flawless collection of genre busting, mind expanding jams. Fans of Andree 3000’s The Love Below, D’Angelo and Dam Funk, or those yearning for the halcyon days of Chillwave will find a lot to love here.
