Drawn in the mid-Qing Dy­nasty (1787-1820); the orig­i­nal map, mea­sur­ing 30cm×910cm, is cur­rently in the col­lec­tion of the Li­brary of Congress in the United States The coloured scroll, drawn with­out scale state­ment, is com­posed of six maps that in­clude to­day’s Hainan Prov­ince, the Penghu is­lands and Tai­wan, with the moun­tains, rivers, is­lands, reefs, shoals and har­bours pre­sented in free­hand brush­work and ju­ris­dic­tional de­ploy­ment de­tails such as towns and vil­lages clearly la­beled. Coastal de­fense, water reg­i­men, ship­ping lanes and an­chor­age grounds, to­gether with cor­re­spond­ing ge­o­graph­i­cal and mil­i­tary in­for­ma­tion, are in­di­cated through text place­ment.
