Vis­it­ing a “Peo­ple’s Park” in China is like peer­ing into a minia­ture snow globe bustling with en­ergy and en­thu­si­asm, a small sam­ple size of the lo­cal ecosys­tem. By me­an­der­ing through the wind­ing path­ways and re­clin­ing on the boun­ti­ful park benches, one can gain an in­sight into the tra­di­tions and cus­toms of the lo­cal peo­ple, while also sim­ply soak­ing in the at­mos­phere.

Vis­it­ing a “Peo­ple’s Park” in China is like peer­ing into a minia­ture snow globe bustling with en­ergy and en­thu­si­asm, a small sam­ple size of the lo­cal ecosys­tem. By me­an­der­ing through the wind­ing path­ways and re­clin­ing on the boun­ti­ful park benches, one can gain an in­sight into the tra­di­tions and cus­toms of the lo­cal peo­ple, while also sim­ply soak­ing in the at­mos­phere. Aptly ti­tled the “Peo­ple’s Park”, an af­ter­noon spent ex­plor­ing the park, is cen­tred on the hap­pen­ings of the peo­ple who oc­cupy the spaces in be­tween the fo­liage. An eclec­tic mix of peo­ple from all walks of life, in­ter­act­ing in dif­fer­ent ways. El­derly men hud­dle around small ta­bles let­ting off steam by smok­ing cig­a­rettes and play­ing mahjong or cards, puff­ing away as they con­cen­trate du­ti­fully. The squeals of chil­dren are car­ried in the wind as they chase each other around, gig­gling as they play with colour­ful trin­kets, or wave around sticks that let off an ar­ray of bub­bles. Fam­i­lies gather around the banks of small bod­ies of wa­ter, hop­ping onto small boats to tour around the park. Such vivid colours and vi­tal­ity are stuffed into a small space like a jack-in-the-box.
