BREGUET CLASSIQUE 7147 SMALL SECONDS
This is without a doubt one of my favourite pieces to come out of Basel this year. There’s something appealing about taking something fundamentally simple – a small seconds watch – and applying a subtle difference to completely transform its aesthetic value. Breguet’s Classique 7147 Small Seconds has a beautiful enamel dial – but it’s not just any enamel dial. Instead of painting on a sub-dial, the watchmaker fired a single piece of enamel with a slight dip, creating a pool of sorts for the small seconds sub-dial to rest in. There’s something about a large, piece of flawlessly fired enamel that is just so elegant; the dial is incredibly simple looking but you know it took numerous attempts to get it just right. It’s a piece that really needs to be seen in the flesh to truly appreciate.
