A watch winder repurposed from an old BMW M-power engine might just be the most luxurious upcycling project out there

So you’ve got an old BMW M52 straight-6 piston engine on your hands. What do you do with it? The obvious thing to do would be to reinstall it into an out-of-commission body. The less obvious thing to do would be to convert it into a watch winder.

Of course, that is exactly what Vulcan Innova has done with the VI52 automatic watch winder. The carefully repurposed BMW engine can simultaneously display and wind up to six watches. Each of the pistons can hold and wind a single watch, with stepper engines installed to ensure there are no noise complaints. The pistons can also be programmed to rotate individually or as a group, depending on the number of watches being wound, for maximum efficiency.
