The Information Office of the Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (in Northwest China) on August 30 held a news conference, during which the Women's Federation of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the Higher People's Court of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the Women Lawyers' Working Committee, under Ningxia Bar Association, announced the top eight cases (during the past five years) in which legal institutions and women's federations, at all levels in the region, offered legal assistance to women and children to protect their legal rights and interests. The event was held in Yinchuan, capital of the region. It was the first time that the region held such a news conference.

The cases involved domestic violence, the argument about a woman's custody over her children, and the infringement of women's property-related rights and interests, family relations and the job market. The cases were typical examples of the cases resolved by various organizations (including legal institutions and women's federations, at all levels in the region), which have worked together to protect women and children's legal rights and interests.

To raise public awareness about the importance of protecting women and children's legal rights and interests, the above-mentioned federation, court and committee held an activity, at the end of last year, to select the top cases (during the past five years) in which legal institutions and women's federations, at all levels in the region, offered legal assistance to women and children. The activity was part of the Women's Rights Protection Campaign, implemented by the Women's Federation of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in 2015. Organizers encouraged women to study the law, to improve their ability to protect their legal rights and interests.

The Women's Federation of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region will compile the top eight cases into a book. It will then distribute the book among members of associations of women judges and procurators in different regions of China, and officials of women's federations, at all levels across the country, to help relevant people improve their ability to protect women and children's legal rights and interests.
