Yan Shijie and Cao Mei, entrepreneurs and collectors, opened Red Brick Art Museum in the No. 1 International Art District, in Chaoyang District, in Beijing, in May 2014. The museum covers 20,000 square meters, and it includes a nearly 10,000-square-meter exhibition zone. It is a garden-like art museum, where people can visit the exhibitions indoors and then enjoy the beautiful scenery in the outdoor garden. The museum has become a landmark in Chaoyang District. It has attracted many visitors from China and abroad.

Dong Yugan, a professor with the Architecture Research Center of Peking University, designed the museum. Dong used red bricks as the main architectural element of the museum. The museum has nine exhibition zones, two public lounges, a lecture hall, an artwork store, a member club, a café and a dining room.

The permanent collections include works by Christain Lemmerz (a German sculptor), Olafur Eliasson (a Danish artist), Michael Kvium (a Danish painter), Tony Oursler (an American artist), Huang Yongping (a Chinese artist), Wu Shanzhuan (a Chinese artist) and Inga Svala Thorsdottir (Wu's

wife and an Icelandic artist).

The Red Brick Design Store sells artworks, creative products and art-related products. Creative products include jewelry, garments and children's toys with well-known brands at home and abroad, or designed by renowned independent designers. Art-related products include albums of paintings and products related to the artworks on display. All revenues are transferred to the

museum's foundation, to be used to finance exhibitions and academic research.

Redbrick Courtyard, behind the museum's main building and surrounded by the garden, includes a restaurant, coffee bar, private club and a multifunctional hall. Activities, including weddings, parties, auctions, business banquets, conferences, awards ceremonies and art appreciation can be held in the area.
