Say No to Sexual Assaults on Children
China has no nationwide statistics on sexual assaults that involve children. The book, Research on Construction of Children Protection System: Target, Strategy and Approach, compiled by experts with the Family and Children Research Center, of Beijing Normal University, was published in April 2017. As stated in the book, more than 10 percent of minors had suffered a sexual assault (findings based on regional surveys in China).
Tong Lihua, director of Beijing Youth Legal Assistance and Research Center, noted the public didn't have a complete understanding of rape and sexual assault. Most people think perpetrators are usually strangers to the victims. But, actually, most of the perpetrators who sexually assault children are members of the children's families, or they are teachers or acquaintances of the children. Also, most of the victims are very young.
