Story Tribe for Lovely Kids
Chen Di, a primary school student in Jiang'an, a district in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei Province, enjoyed a happy summer vacation this year. He and his peers enjoyed listening to stories told by volunteers, and they had fun playing games with those volunteers. Wuhan Women's Federation in recent years has organized volunteers to tell stories to and play games with young children during their summer vacations. The team has been well received by the residents and their children.
Xu Li, President of Wuhan Women's Federation, in May 2016 proposed the team's establishment. The team, called Story Tribe for Lovely Kids, is intended to enrich children's lives and help them stay safe and sound during their summer vacations.
During the summer of 2016, the volunteers shared more than 100 illustrated stories with children in 20 of the area's communities. The volunteers also played games with the children. The federation recently established a volunteers' service center, and recruited more than 60 volunteers, from all segments of society in Wuhan, to tell stories and offer courses to the kids, to help them improve their reading proficiency. Zheng Jian, a renowned children's literature writer in Wuhan, within a short time contacted the federation's officials. He told the officials he would like to tell stories to the children, as he felt obliged to kindle children's passion for literature. Many of the volunteers said they took delight in telling stories to the children, as the activity not only benefited the children, but also enriched their own lives.
